Yorkshire is steeped in History, and has been around under one name and another for more than 2000 years and is heralded as one of the most picturesque counties in the UK and the largest by far. Consisting of over 6,000 square miles, stretching from the East coast to within 30 miles of the West coast, and from Durham and the Cumbria borders in the north of the county to the Derbyshire and Nottingham borders in the south of the county.

There are four National Parks in the county of Yorkshire: The Yorkshire Dales, The North York Moors, The Yorkshire Wolds and The Peak District. Below are some of the famous people from our Yorkshire Heritage. Some good, some not so good, but all very famous in one-way or another

Guy Fawkes Born in York 1570 –1606, Dick Turpin, Born Pontefract - Executed at Tyburn Hill 1739. Captain James Cook, Born in Marton North Yorkshire 1728 - 1779. The Bronte Sisters Born in Thornton Bradford, Joseph Priestley Born in Batley - was the Discoverer of Oxygen,
Henry Moore Born in Castleford 1898, Harold Wilson Born in Huddersfield - Ex Prime Minister, Harold "Dickie" Bird Born in Barnsley, Michael Parkinson Born in Barnsley.


York Minster:

This dramatic Gothic Minster, one of Europe's finest dominates this Beautiful City. If you intend to stay or to just visit York then you must visit the Minster.

 
 


Bronte Parsonage Museum :

The one time home to the famous Bronte family, the parsonage now houses a unique collection of manuscripts and personal treasures that belonged to the literary sisters. The museum runs talks and activities and provides a free childrens guide.


Swaledale, Wensleydale, Nidderdale, Langstrothdale, Arkengarthdale, Ribblesdale Airedale and Wharfedale these are the Yorkshire Dales.


Here is an area of stunning beauty, tourists from all around the world come to this corner of Britain for the varied beauty and the character and charm of the villages of the Dales which nestle in the valleys.

 
 


WHITBY:(The Home of Dracula)

St Hilda's Abbey dominates the skyline on one the east side  of the Town, while on the west side are the main Hotels. Between them runs the River Esk estuary, and spanning the river and connecting east to west is the swing bridge. St Mary's Parish Church situated next to the Abbey and one of the finest Anglo Saxon churches in the country, also the place that gave Bram Stoker his idea for the Famous Dracula Book. Another of


Castle Howard:

The Howards of Castle Howard stem from Lord William Howard (1563-1640), youngest son of Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk. He took possession of Henderskelfe in Yorkshire, the site of Castle Howard today, as part of the inheritance of his wife, Elizabeth Dacre whom he married in 1577.
